Ngaramtoni Farmers Market Support

UPC's market work aims to make local food markets safer, more inclusive and more supportive of the families who depend on them. At Ngaramtoni the initiative is exploring small, low-cost children's playgrounds inside the existing market, alongside wider efforts to strengthen the farmers market itself and improve pedestrian safety and access to it.

The play spaces are being designed with the market community, using locally available and recycled materials. They give children a safe place to play, learn and socialise, and they let vending parents, particularly mothers, keep working with their children close by.

By turning a farmers market into a more welcoming and multifunctional public space, UPC is working to widen safe walking and cycling access, improve the quality and resilience of the market, and strengthen its role in local food systems and community health.
